I am divorced female who cannot have children on her own. I am now at a point in my life where I can give alot to a child. I would like to have a girl anywhere from 8-14 years old. Do I qualify as a single parent? How long do I need to be in my new residence? Can I adopt more than one child?

  1. Hi there!!

Im so happy to see that you want to adopt. Im only 20years old but later I know that I want to adopt at least one child. There are so many children out there with no parents no house no toys no love.... Its so sad!

I think you would definitly qualify! But you have to be financially stable, and have fulltime job...

I also think is really super of you for wanting to adopt a 8year plus child! Most future-parents want to have babies... But there are so many old children that don't have a chance on getting a decent future because they are too old.

You really rock!! Don't give up on your dream... For adopting! But know that those organisations are really strict and can be a pain in the ***! But if they see that you really want a child, that you have enough money for supporting a child and tons of love to give, well than you will get the green card :-)

  2. Hi Lisa,

I'm happy to see you expressing an interest in adopting an older child.  There are currently many thousands available in the foster care system.  There are even sibling groups, so yes, you can adopt more than one if your home qualifies.

To get qualified, you can contact Ohio state dept. of children services.  There is some information on these links to help get you started:

    http://www.mcohio.org/revize/montgomery/...

    http://www.greenecsb.org/fostercare-adop...

    http://www.ohiolegalservices.org/OSLSA/P...

They can explain how you can get your homestudy completed and all the other requirements.  Hope this helps.

    Good luck Lisa!

  3. You're in a perfect location to adopt little girls in that age range. You do qualify as a single parent, boyfriend or not. It does not matter how long you've been in your home. And yes you can adopt more than one child. All the agency want to see is that you can provide for these children that are placed in your home. They will come out and evaluate you and your home. You need to make sure that everyone residing in your home is known about. No secrets. That you have living space for this child. You will be given a little check to help you provide for this child. If this is what you want to do go for it. There is alot of children out here that needs a family.

  4. if you have never been a parent before i would suggest you foster with a view to adopt a 8-14yr old will decide if your what their looking for in a parent or they may never see you in that role you may only be a mentor. youngsters that age usually have loads of emotional baggage and have probably been let down badly by the adults in their lives its very hard and committed work to gain the trust of a child who's been hurt in the past, but i hope you pursue it. just always remember who's needs come first. good luck i hope everything works out

  5. i dont know if you qualify to be an adoptive parent, but you sure do qualify to be a great person!

  6. The agency's tend to be tougher on us single women, but yes it is possible.  For a child in that age range you will need to be educated and prepared for long battles ahead.  A child that is 8-14 years old and in need of a home is going to have a lot of emotional damage.    Counseling will most likely be a part of the adoption process as well as a lot of monitoring from different agency's.

A great place to get started would be to become a foster parent.  They will guide you through the training that you will need and provide all the answers to your questions.

It is great to see you interested in adopting, especially an older child.  Their odds of adoption decrease with age... so there are plenty of children in that age range that could use a loving mother!

    Good Luck!

  7. contact the department of human services in the county you are living in (cuyahoga, summit, lorain, lake, et al).

and as stated by someone else, THANK you for actually giving a home to child who really needs one.  most aparents are not interested in parentless children, yet procurring babies from scared, young pregnant girls..

i also recommend foster to adopt. my brother and his partner did it through the cuyahoga county department of human services (cleveland, cleveland hts, shaker hts, et al) and they officially adopted 2 teen-aged boys about 5 years ago.  the boys are doing well and are in college.

my high-school teacher also adopted an older child from foster care as a single mother.  she had no problems.

  8. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ADOPT AS A SINGLE PARENT.

MAKE SHURE THAT U ARE FINACIALLY STABLE,

  9. I would think so.  Thank you for considering giving a home to a child who REALLY needs one.  You are doing a wonderful thing and this is what adoption should really be about - finding a home for those children who need them

The majority of adopters these days demand a baby and feed the money-hungry baby market and their unethical practices of procuring infants

  10. If I were you, I would start in foster parenting, because like the other answerer said, they will have lots of emotional issues. Also, you might get attached to one that you could adopt in the long run, and it's kind of testing to see what parenting is like.

It's great that you are looking to better somone's life, and add to your own as well. I hope you succeed in your endeavors.

  11. Adopt a pet from the shelter, they don't talk back.

  12. Yes, You can, I think you should start by doing foster care. Start with the youngest you can handle.Trust me I did fostering for over 21 kids. I wanted to do teens cuz they were the ones no one wanted. they are also the ones that want no one from what i found out. :( I wanted to adopt too. I know many single females who foster then adopt. Go to the social service dept. they will point you in the right direction. Good luck and God bless.

  13. They will probably come and visit your house to check things out. I would just call the agency or wherever you're going to adopt from and see what their stipulations are on your living arrangements an monetary stuff. Good luck! Thanks for being willing to take care of the children who are given up by irresponsible parents.
