  1. jenny craig!

my mom is your age and she did it and lost a lot of weight

  2. if you start working out and when you start seeing results you will begin to get motivated

  3. Lets talk about it over dinner and then take a long walk.

  4. Try and get into some sport, nothing that's too physically demanding but enough to burn a few calories. My friend ( female- 59) plays badminton with me and it seems to keep her quite fit, and she also says that playing a lot of golf is really good because the amount of walking.

Playing sport with friends is really good because they keep you motivated and make sure you actually play!

& apparently joining a club like slimming world is really good because they give you plenty of advice & tips, while other people who are also trying to lose weight are there as well which helps motivate yourself

  5. i'm 52 year old female. i take a lot of medicines most of which cause a lot of weight gain. i was told that by eating 6 small meals a day that i could lose weight. it does work. i was up to 288 now i am down to 238. what you do is eat a small breakfast then between that and lunch eat maybe a piece of fruit or a yogurt. then eat half a sandwich for lunch. then between lunch and dinner eat some cheese and or some more fruit. then eat a small dinner. between dinner and going to bed eat another snack. fruit,or cheese or yogurt. you don't have to eat exactly what i suggested but hopefully you get the right idea. also drink alot of ice cold water during the day. ice cold water helps to stem the appetite. it does work. i have had a stroke and have trouble walking so my exercise consists of mall walking twice a week. i don't drive so i have to wait for my husband to drive me. but the more eoxercise you can get the faster you will lose weight. I wish you the best of luck.

  7. I am a 55 year old woman, and I totally understand.  Here is what works for me.

Keeping a food journal really does help.  It will give you a much better sense of how much you are eating, and when, and why.

Make a few additional small changes - walk everywhere, always use stairs instead of elevators, walk on escalators, get up and move around at least once an hour if your work or your life in general is sedentary, walk every day, use a pedometer. Walking 10,000 steps a day is a really good idea. Build up to a long brisk walk everyday, or most days.  Be more active and watch less TV and spend less time on the computer.   Buy one piece of exercise equipment to have at home and be strict with yourself about using it.   Sometimes you can find mini-steppers or exercise bikes at second hand stores and thrift stores for just a few dollars.

Start a weight lifting routine. It will help increase your metabolism and make you feel and look better in so many ways. Join a gym. Possibly you can find one that has someone who specializes in weight lifting programs for beginners. Weight lifting will increase your metabolism as well as improve posture and appearance overall.  Even if you can't get to the gym you can work out at home using things around the house.  A couple of the links I've included explain how.

In terms of diet, cut out or reduce things like junk food, pop, fat, fast food. Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, fish.   Particularly if you choose a vegetarian lifestyle include natural peanut butter, hummus, dried fruit and nuts.  Pay close attention to getting the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.

Make your portion sizes smaller.   Use a smaller plate - in our society we have become accustomed to thinking that we need a large plate of food at every meal, and we don't.  About quarter of your plate of food should be protein and at least half of it should be veggies.

Learn to count calories.  At your current weight and activity level, you may need about 2000 calories or more to maintain your current weight. So you will lose weight at a reasonable and healthy rate if you cut back to about 1600 or 1700 calories a day.

Eat small amounts frequently, rather than three large meals.  Never skip breakfast.  Include some protein in your breakfast.  It will help get you through the day.

Drink plenty of water, at least 8 big glasses of water a day, and more if it is very hot, if you sweat a lot, or if you are exercising intensely, and eliminate fruit juices.  Fruit juices have too many calories, so get your vitamins from fresh fruit, not the juice.  You will begin to see changes in your body.

Check out websites about nutrition, exercise, weight training, etc.  Here are a few helpful links.

  8. Well your not alone, I'm 61 years old and I'm about 40  pounds over weight and I just tried my first day of dieting with the Woo-Yee tea, I got it off the webb.  I'v tried to just stop  eating the bad stuff but its easier if I use something while dieting to help me to keep me from eating the wrong stuff, I dont know if it will work but I have an insentive to eat less and stay away from the  cakes and icecream, night time is the worse time for me, I like to eat while watching tv. so now I will have a cup of tea instead of eating.  good luck April

  9. Because of your age, and the fact that as we get older we lose things in our bodies (nutrients, hormone changes, etc) its really important that you speak to your doctor about losing weight and not take advice over the internet.

As well, you talked about lack of motivation... Weight Watchers may be of good benefit to you.
