Now every i go they require a Diploma or Ged and I do not read well but i love math at 58 where can I get a job I operate forklift, skitzters, bucket trucks, build forms for concrete and cement finishing, I paint and well, tape and bed sheetrock and i love to work hard i've done it all my life. I am setting her with my wife while she types this plea for help. Someone in Lancaster or near this area may hire me. Thanks for you help!

  1. Are you in the US or the UK?

If it's the Lancaster, UK you're talking about; why don't you have a read through a newspaper (jobs section), or maybe go to your local job centre?

Also, just asking around (your family/friends) is bound to get you somewhere!

I'm only 14, and shouldn't really be talking about retirement but, hey, it was nice answering you! Good luck!

  2. More important than a GED is 40 yrs of work experience.

  3. Apply for a GED, because you will be proud to have that.  They will work with you.  As to getting a job, go out every day, just as if you are working, and apply.  Go to the unemployment office employment section, and get them to work with you.  Also, go to Manpower and see if they have a job you would qualify for.  Don't give up.  Your experience will count, you just have to find the right place. Work on your reading; you may not always have your wife with you, and there are literacy programs at your local library.

Please don't give up!  You will find work.  You are worthwhile.  And don't get depressed.

Also, encourage every one you know to get their education.  You can now see how important it is, even though years ago you didn't know the future would be as it is.  There are no guarantees in life, but one:  you can't predict the future.

Good luck.  You are a good man.  And there is a company wanting a good worker.  Find them.

  4. Man, that really sucks the City did that to you at that age. Going to be hard to find a job up north without an education. Maybe your friends there will be of more help than Yahoo Answers? There's "Allot" of work in the South, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, In Construction! Still rebuilding from the Hurricane, (Katrina). But your up there, So I really dont know what to tell you partner. Sorry I could not be of more help. If you were down here I could get you a job starting Monday, at least $12 to start an hour. maybe $14 with all your experience. Anyways, sorry again could not be of more help. Good Luck to you, and Take Care.

  5. 58 years old, and you can't even write a proper sentence?

I hope you are telling your daughter to stay in school!

Your best bet is to look for a job similar to what you had.

  6. I am truly sorry to hear the loss of your job. One possible reason why they threw away the knife is, you worked for the city of Lancaster for over 9 years. The way the city was thinking, why should we pay Mr. nine years a nine year salary when we can throw away the knife and hire new at a much lower entry level salary. The city saves money doing that. It should be illegal for any employer to do that. But, sad news is, it's not.

A word to the wise, when one door closes another will open. Think of that job as water under the bridge.

You will infact find anther job that is better and with higher pay...

    Good luck buddy
