I am a American citizen born and raised here. Gas Question and other things?

Why are we not standing for our rights and we have them here in America? The gas is going out of hand can we all Americans get together to strile on gas for a day or two to send a message. We run this country not congress or the president. We can make a stand if we do not like something. The gonvernment will finaly change the gas prices if we do something about it.

What is wrong with the American people not standing up for there rights?

How can we pull together to get our voice to be heard and solve this gas crises, but not only that wages, food going up, home, just everthing?

Lets solve this problem any ideas????

  1. Government doesn't control gas prices, except through taxes (which are pretty minimal, especially in comparison to other countries).  Oil companies control gas prices, and they do so based on supply and demand.

Oil is a finite resource, and we've probably already reached peak production.  Oil supplies have nowhere to go but down, and thus oil prices have nowhere to go but up.

If you want to solve the problem, get a more fuel efficient car and drive less.  Americans drive unneccesarily large and inefficient cars.  Until we're willing to become more fuel efficient, we really have no excuse to complain about gas prices.  In the UK they pay more than twice for gas what we pay in the US.

  2. The Global Warming scam is to make money. The GW is what started the problem and as long as it is propagated there will be a problem. It is manufactured by the Left to keep the republicans on defense.

  3. It sounds a bit like campaigning for a better seat on the deck of the Titanic as it sinks.  I live very close to my work and drive a car that is barely visible to the naked eye, so whether petrol prices are high or low have almost no effect on me.  I also try to use Public Transport (such as there is in this city) or walk if I can.  I reckon my car costs me about $20 a fortnight to run.

Climate change from the consumption of fossil fuels is a problem that will make all our present woes look like a summer vacation unless it is addressed immediately.

One way to achieve lower consumption would be for the Government to put a $5 surcharge on each gallon of petrol and pump the funds from this into effective, clean (solar / battery / fuel cell) powered public transport on a massive scale.

Then only the very rich will be able to afford to drive anything larger than a motor scooter.  Oh well, the rich have always had a better life than everyone else and always will.

  4. haha your mistaken. the government doesent control any prices, or they shouldent( universal health care would be unconstitutional). but yeah if he boycotted gas the oil company's would just sell the extra oil to foreign countries at a lower price due to the demand shrinking rapidly and we would lose out completely.

  5. Exactly what rights are you referring to?  There is no constitutional right to cheap gasoline.  If you think prices are too high, stop using so much, or take action to increase the supplly (i.e. more drilling, a few more refineries).

Dana, oil companies don't control prices either, the market does.  As I said, if you want lower gasoline prices you must either 1) increase supply or 2) decrease demand.  And, since this is a globally traded commodity, these actions need to be on a global scale.

The federal government charges you 18 cents on every gallon of gasoline you buy.  State governments usually charge more.

  6. er, its not the governments fault gas prices are going up unless they are adding tax to it!! its a WORLD ECONOMY, er, why doesnt america understand that?

what can the government do about the world's economy for the price of oil??

and when has it ever been a HUMAN RIGHT to have cheap gas??

"What is wrong with the American people not standing up for there rights?"

What is wrong with American people not understanding the WORLD ECONOMY??

did the UK people strike on the UK government when there was a war food ration??

    er, no.

  7. Are you from some compound in texass?   I've worked with some pretty stupid people before, but never any with your unique language style and thought process.

  8. Most of the price fluctuation is due to hedge fund speculators, but there are lots of factors.  Politicians don't dictate price, but they really should lower the taxes.

The only good thing is that there's tons of oil available.  We have reserves in Wyoming that can now be obtained by drilling sideways (if the environmentalists will let us) and we have oil in Alaska, off the California coast and lots in the gulf of Mexico.  The Chinese are already planning to drill there.  Why can't we?  Oh yeah, environmentalists again.

Also they just found lots more oil in Brazil.  Enough to last hundreds of years.

It doesn't mean we should waste it, but you can't expect us to progress by reducing use.  As more countries advance, there will be more and more needs, so we need to make new refineries and drill more.  Did you know we haven't built a new refinery in the US in more than 30 years? You can thank the environmentalists again for that.

Now we not only must import oil, but we have to import refined gasoline as well.  That's pathetic.

Contact you local politicians and get them to lift bans on building refineries and drilling oil.

That will reduce prices, guaranteed.  And it would make us less dependent on foreign oil.
