I am a Calcutta boy now and Eden Gardens is my home ground, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 – Cricket News Update
The Delhi-born Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, Gautam Gambhir, has said that he is a “Calcutta boy now” and his home ground is Eden Gardens, not Feroz Shah Kotla.
Gambhir’s latest statement has come after he led the Knight Riders to a comprehensive six wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in front of an adoring http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 crowd, on Monday, May 7, 2012.
“I am a Calcutta boy now and Eden Gardens is my home ground,” said Gambhir at the post-match press conference after KKR dethroned Sehwag-led Delhi Daredevils at the top of IPL-V points table. “Kotla is perhaps where I spent most
of my time, but my heart belongs to the Eden. But it’s always nice to come back to my hometown,” he added further.
After going into the match a point behind the hosts, Knight Riders outshined the Daredevils in all the three departments of the game to seal a convincing six wicket win. Gambhir credited the bowlers for the victory; however, he
said that the batsmen need to put in a bit more effort.
“I believe that the batsmen need to put in a bit more effort,” said the 30-year-old left-arm top order batsman from Delhi. “We are peaking at the right time… We should look to improve more,” he added further.
After struggling in the first three seasons of the cash rich Indian Premier League, the Knight Riders emerged as a strong side in season four where they finished among the top four sides. The side continued performing well under
Gambhir, as they have already qualified for the playoffs in the ongoing season five.
Replying to a query regarding Kolkata Knight Riders’ co-owner Shah Rukh http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, Gambhir said that the bollywood superstar does not interfere a lot into team matters.
“Shah Rukh doesn’t interfere a lot,” said the left-hander. “The guys are self-motivated. I believe that if you are not motivated while playing for KKR, you don’t deserve to sit in the dressing room,” he added further.
Gambhir also warned the side against complacency in the ensuing games and said that there is still a long way to go.
