  1. From what I understand, both Sat companies use beams aimed at the US and the southern part of Canada. In fact part of the Sirius orbit of satellites takes it over Manitoba.

But here is the definitive answer:

  2. Yes... XM works in Mexico and the Caribbean, too.

  3. Yes, it's satellite radio. You won't lose the satellite signal as long as you stay on this continent, and there's no way for the US to block your system while you're here. Welcome to the States.

  4. i use sirius

    yes xm works all over

    my friends have XM

    they drive all over

the satellite is in the sky man!

  5. It should. They use SATELITES, which mean you can be practically ANYWHERE and they will work. If not, then what's the point of them being a Satelite radio?

But yeah, it should. If it doesn't, I'd talk to the company who sold it to you...

  6. Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Well that's four out of four. Canadians travelling south can receive XM throughout the US, but not the entire continent. The reverse does not hold true for US subscribers headed north. The satellite is a carrier for a transmitable (thus controllable) signal. Which means, except in the border cities: Windsor, Tijuana, etc. your signal will soon fade as a US subscriber headed south or north of the border.

This does not mean that no one has ever picked up a signal in the Bahamas or other similar situations - but it's rare and not supposed to happen. Just as we can (and do) directionalize our terrestrial signals with antenna tricks, so do the satellite services. Both to ensure no unauthorized listening and to keep all the government agencies that control such things happy.

However (and this is where even I get shaky) my understanding is if you call customer support for either XM or Sirius and tell them your plans, they have short-term solutions for visitors heading north.
