I am a Registered Nurse I want to volunteer and travel in Central/South America?

I'm australian trained in Intensive Care with 2.5 years experience, are there any good companies or experiences anyone has heard of?

Consider Medicins san Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders), PAHO (Pan American Health Organization -- a unit of World Health Organization www.who.int), and the like.

Try a volunteer search on Yahoo, MSN, etc.

You can try non profitable organizations like Red Cross or Caritas or Hogar de Cristo. They run hospitals and ofices in countries like Chile, Peru, Bolivia, etc. You can also check with the Australian consulate or embassy in several countries and see if they run some charity work in one of the countries you are interested in.

my niece is on treatment for her leg, she was caring by a volunteer from france speciliced on children, she was for 6 months, the volunteer was treat very well, even so i think she was paid on the last two months, now she gone to her country.

Apart from that I know there are some clinics that receive volunteers, just you have to ask in that clinics or hospitlals where you want to be volunteer. I don't know how is it, in other countries, but in Peru, you have to present your profile abouth who you are. I'm from Peru, Arequipa, and there is a hospital for childrens, in that hosopital they received volunteers, the name is www.sanjuandediosarequipa.com,... there are many just take a look, you will be welcome everywhere

I am not sure about certain companies but I know if you are looking to go to Central/South America Costa Rica is a great choice.  They are the frindliest country of all of them and welcome other cultures.  Also it is cheap to live there and the country is an absolute paradise.
