I am concerned about the money involved, the accomodations if I am qualified and the expiration of my visa.

A student visa is just what it says. You would be studying and not working in the U.S. and graduating from your course of studies is no guarentee that you will be able to obtain a work visa or find an employer to sponsor you for one.

Alsobare in mind that the H1B cap for 2008 as been reached, you would have to wait until 2009 to be able to work, if you are selected and an employer gets the petition in by the April 1st 2009 deadline.

But yes, the F1 visa is the way to go for the best chance of staying in te U.S. long-term and it is also the quickest.
