  1. US Passport

  2. Are you talking about the "lobster village" between Rosarito and Ensenada, south of San Diego? If so, then I assume you're driving there, right?

This is super easy. Just go. To come back, as of right now, you only need a U.S.-issued id such as your driver's license or state-issued ID, or a photo id with your birth certificate.

That may change later in 2008, when the government may start requiring travelers re-entering the U.S. by land to have passports. But the government still hasn't picked a firm date and there is pressure on them not to do it anytime soon. Keep an eye on the state department site for updates.

  3. All you need to FLY is your US passport.

  4. If you are flying, you will need a passport.  If you are driving or taking a boat, however, you currently can either use your passport or your birth certificate and driver's license.  The US recently delayed full enforcement of its passport-only rule for land and sea crossings, but it's best to check with the State Department closer to the time of your trip to see whether the rules have changed between now and then.
