  1. Others are right, marriage to a Mexican national has nothingto do with beoming a citizen..  Right now, you need an AMERICAN passport to FLY to and from Mexico, but not for LAND or Sea travel . After June 2009, you will need a passport ( American ) to travel by any means between the two.  To become a Mexican citizen, needFM3 visa for 5 years, an FM2visa for at least 2 years, and then you may apply for citizenship...which takes about 2 years. You must reside in  Mexico during this time.  You may get a Mexican passport after you become a citizen.  Actually...I justfound a Mexican naturalization site that says you may apply after 5 years of residence in Mexico..new info to me as the immigration office told me the other info..anyway, you may see this at site below. I know several American women who are married to Mexican nationals, and have not become citizens, but live here permanently.

  2. No, you do not have dual citizenship. It is a process that takes several years and LOTS of paperwork.

You do not need a passport to travel TO Mexico. You need one to RETURN to the US.

No. You cannot get a Mexican Passport until and unless you get Mexican citizenship..

  3. No you do not have dual citicenship just by marriage.

In Mexico like in the US you need to apply for citizenship after marriage ifyou decide to take the citizenship of your spouse.

Just by getting married does not give you any citizen rights in Mexico so you cannot have a Mexican passport until you naturalize yourself in that country... So you will need your US Passport.

It seems like you want a dual citizenship, in that case you can go to the Mexican Consulate in your region an apply for Mexican Citizenship... the process might be lenghty

  4. 1. No, you do not have dual citizenship through the marriage.

    2. It would be wise to have a passport when traveling anywhere outside of the USA. Pretty hard to get on most airlines without one today.

    3. Check with the nearest Mexican embassy about obtaining a Mexican passport.

  5. There is no such document as you know that would indicate and actually there is no such thing.

There is duel "Nationality" and that is if a Mexican couple have a child abroad then Mexico recognizes that child as a Mexican National.

As all the other answers said you have to apply for citizenship you are technically asked to renounce your nationality of origin.

That is something that some countries accept.

America does not and you can then be a duel national in the eyes of America.

Now that you are married you only have 8 years or so in the immigration process and if you wish you can apply for citizenship.

If you are American you best get a passport as you will need it to enter Mexico from all points Sea ,Air and land .  I think that date is July 2009

  6. No, you aren't legally mexican.

You'd have to live in mexican soil and stay married for a certain amount of years before you could apply for permanent residency and thereafter apply for full-fledged citizenship which would be like getting a Greencard if your wife wanted to get American citizeneship if she isn't already.

Among the things I just mentioned, you have to sing the mexican national anthem to get citizenship. You might also need to be fluent in spanish.

No, you don't need to lose American citizenship anymore. The laws were changed over 10 years ago to allow people like in your case to become dual citizens. I'm a dual citizen myself, but by birthright.
