  1. I have been snowboarding for more than 7 years . . . definently find a board that measures up to your chin. I am 13, and I have been doing the chin thing ever since I began.

    BOOTS:

Get a boot that is just a little bit big for you so you can use it for more than one year since your feet are still growing. I would recomend Lamars-- that brand of boot is really un-heavy and you wont feel like your walking around with metal balls chained to your legs.

By the way, If you are just beginning at this sport, you might want to try renting boards before you start buying them. This will make sure that you definently want to continue with snowboarding. But if you fail at first, DONT QUIT. It took me 3 years before I really got the hang of snowboarding. Once that happens, It is the best thing in the world and you will LOVE IT!!!

    TIPS:

a good snowboarding exercise is standing in the middle of a room and then standing on your tip-toes, then back down without letting your heels touch the ground. keep repeating this until you can do it on one leg. this strengthens your calf muscles. OH and I would recomend going to a ski resort and asking for a PRIVATE lesson. Private lessons are better because you get more attention and more time to learn instead of waiting for the other kids.

The most common injury is a broken wrist, from when people fall and try to catch themselves.

Be careful and have fun out there!!

  2. If someone say's you have to get a board that measures to your chin I am going to freak out! That is not how you choose a board. Picking a board depends on your riding style that you will choose, weight, and shoe size with boots on. Longer boards offer better control at higher speeds and are good for carving. If you want to do tricks and stuff a shorter board will offer more control. An all mountain board is the most popular and allows you to do everything on it.  A Freestyle Snowboard is wider, more stable, and more forgiving to ride. Also, it is shorter, lighter and (compared with a freeride board) softer in flex, which makes it easier to turn. A good choice for a beginner. When choosing one you will want to get one for your weight range and shoe size, with boots on. So you may want to find a pair of boots you like, measure there length and choose a board that is about 1 inch to 1 1/2 inches narrower. As for tips on snowboarding. Don't land on your face.

OK I am now freaking out!

So let me get this straight creator. Take two people, both are 5'6" tall. One weights 200 lbs and the other 150. Both need a board that goes to their chin? That same board will work for two people with a 50 lb weight difference? I think not. A board is designed to flex a certain amount to make perfect contact with the snow. If it flexes to much then more of the center of the board will hit the snow and less of the ends. And vis versa, if you have a board that is to stiff for your weight then the ends hit the snow and not enough of the center. Ok, now I need to go de-stress myself.

  3. kudos to the man above.  dont listen to the whole go up to your chin talk. you pick the board that feels most comfortable when standing in it. i personally ride a short board for my height.  shorter boards give you more control, while longer boards make you go faster, so it souley depends on what your going to ride, park or freestyle. as a beginner i dont think you will do much park. if you are 5 ft. i would go with about a 143-145.

  4. Freestyle: 143

    Freeride: 147

    Back country: 150

As a beginner, I'd suggest trying freestyle first... I'm just beginning too, so I'm going to try freestyle.
