  1. I learned by teaching myself too!

Okay, the person above me is wrong.

My friend went to this music teacher who was at the top rated in our area. He's been playing for 5 years and I've been playing for less than 2, and I can already kick his *** at guitar.

I'd get a book to start off with.

I have these books. They teach chords and the beginner stuff(like how to hold a pick):

Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method Grade 1

^I also have Grade 2 and Grade 3

Hal Leonard Guitar Method Book 1

And then I have books with songs.

Acoustic Guitar Tab White Pages is great. Has both tabs and sheet music to popular songs.

My friend also taught herself to play guitar, and she says these are the first songs she learned:

    Hey There Delilah

    Good Riddance(Time of Your Life)

    Yellow Submarine

And that's all she can think of....(ahaha sorry talking to to her on aim)

Good luck and don't give up!

Oh, and the F chord is the hardest chord to play, and it takes practice.

  2. well look up the chords and look up tabs for songs you want to learn thats how i taught myself and im pretty good now and it's only been a year

  3. You gotta trust me here - you start learning to play by PICKING UP THE PHONE and calling a good teacher.  A GOOD teacher is worth every penny - a poor teacher is a waste of money.  You will make TONS of progress, and save LOTS of time if you do this.  Otherwise, plan on being stuck in your bedroom, sounding like c**p, for a LONG time.  NO website can teach you - if they cannot hear you or see you, then cannot teach you.
