  1. You have to know how far you hit each club.  You will only know that from going to the range and hitting different clubs.  It also helps to know how far you are from the hole when you are playing.  Distances are measured to the middle of the green.  Red marker is 100 yards.  White Marker is 150 yards.  Blue Marker is 200 yards.  Most courses have markers in the fairway too.  Unless the range you go to changes balls frequently, you will hit a regular golf ball farther than a range ball.  Add 10-20 yards for an iron shot.  20-40 yards for 3 wood/driver.

  2. Pretty much what everyone else said: go to the driving range and practice all your clubs to find about the average distance you hit your clubs. It took me a while in golf to really become consistent with my clubs, so make sure you're consistently hitting the ball well. If you're still hitting the ball so it more times than not goes skimming across the grass, then you should just focus on practicing at the range. It's a tough thing to do, but once you gain that consistency in your game, it'll come to you.

  3. everyone shoots a different distance it depends on your strength and swing

  4. It is different for each player.  You will have to determine your own distance but hitting each club multiple times, then taking the "average" yardage.  When I started I found this card at a store in South Carolina called "Nevada Bob's".  As a rule of thumb, it had something like this:

    SW:80-100

    PW:100-120

    9I: 120-130

    8I: 130-140

    7I: 140-150

    6I: 150-160

    5I: 160-170

    4I: 170-180

    3I: 180-190

    5w/2I: 200-220

    3w: 220-240

    1W: 240 +

Or something like that.  There are other thing that come into play that you will learn as you become more experienced.  But for now, make you a little cheat sheet with yardages.  find out how far you are from the green, use your chart, pull the club according to the chart, hit away, and have fun!

  5. There are hundreds and hundreds of golf courses that you can play on, but learning about how they have been constructed can help you improve your game as well as your understanding of the sport. You might find your answer in this book - Golf - Everything You Want to Know!

  6. the only logical answer is the driving range, learn your clubs and you ability to use them it don't come easy their are alot of risk and rewards that come with knowing which club to use and when to use them, pratice alot and stay focused you will learn

  7. You need to practice with all of them to learn how far you can hit each one, but here is a real general parameter for a beginner:

    Sand Wedge - 80 yards

    Pitching Wedge   - 100 yards

    9 Iron - 120

    8 Iron - 130

    7 Iron - 140

    6 Iron - 150

    5 Iron - 160

    4 Iron - 170

    3 Iron - 180

    2 Iron - 190

1 Iron - Get it out of your bag you can't hit it.

    5 Wood - 200 yards

    3 Wood - 220

    Driver -  230+

  8. Typically it works like this, the further from the hole, the lower number iron to use. So, if you are around 200 yds from the hole, you'd probably want to use a 3 iron. Conversely, if your within a hundred yards and you are an ok ball striker, you would use a PW or SW. Since you are a beginner, think about purchasing a 3W and some hybrid clubs. The reason being, you can strike today's woods and hybrids a little easier than your 3-5 irons. But if you practice at the range and have striking down, there's really no need for woods/hybrids.

  9. Go to a driving range and try using every club, hit about a dozen balls or so with each club and that should give you a pretty good idea how far and accurate you can do with each club, that is if you have good form and contact with the ball.

  10. I woudl suggest going to a driving range with clearly marked yardages and try different clubs at different targets, get a feel for how the ball flies with certain clubs...does it fly higher or lower, longer or shorter etc.  experiment and enjoy.
