I am only just starting out in the sport and would like a decent set of clubs for £200 or less. I am 5'7" so hope a standard set will be adequate or do I need custom made?

Could you also reccomend a good place to buy the set? I live in North West London but do not mind travelling to anywhere in London.

Thanks

  1. i would suggestgetting them at either play it again sports, or d**k's Soprting Goods. both are very helpful.

  2. yeh for your first set have a look on ebay or amazon there bound to have some on there

i would go for maybe dunlop or slazenger are good for begginers

  3. Don't bother, waste of a good walk and countryside.

  4. AJ    don't buy any until you have taken some lessons from a qualified instructor, then, let your instructor advise you.

  5. Hi, what i did was to try out for size in a golf shop. Find the clubs u like and then buy on the Webb!. I found Hippo which are very good for £399 in the shops. Bought on e-bay £170.00. For your height standard length will be OK its 6' 1'' and above for 1'' longer.

  6. Visit your local Professional and you will receive valuable advice on what equipment will suit you.

  7. ebay or even freecycle for the first set

  8. try a pawn broker or sporting goods store. Look into finding a set that's premium but 3 years old maybe you will get lucky on e-bay.

  9. Try your local household recycling centre. nooo don't laugh! they normally get dozens every month.I don't play myself but I bet there will be just about every type you can think of.

  10. If you are just starting out, it's better to buy a USED Iron Set.

Your instructor will ask you to practice with 7 iron to build your basic swing.

When you have your basic swing, and you know what you want, I advise to ask a local clubmaker to build you a set of clubs.  It's called custom fit golf clubs.   Custom always better than off-the rack clubs.   The good thing, they cost less than brand name clubs from TaylorMade and Callaway.
