Question:

I am a caregiver. I drive my 2003 car a lot, 40 mi a day, 4 hours is all I work a day. Is this job worth it?

  1. It all depends on how much you like your job and the people you get to help in your line of work, if you love it enough no price will make you change your mind.  But for myself in that position no I would start looking for another job, before I quit that one.

If you assume 50 cents a mile total cost of driving, which is the AAA figure for a sedan, then you're spending $20 a day on gas and auto expenses.  You're making $36 a day.  Subtract the 20 and that leaves you with $16 a day.  If it takes you half an hour to drive each way, then you're basically making $3.20 an hour.

    Probably not worth it.

    Of course there are other things to consider.  If you really love the job, or you are using it as a stepping stone to a higher position, or something like that, then money shouldn't be an issue.
