  1. Not unless it's in your contract.

Here's  a few perks of being a contractor:

    a) Short term employment which allows you to try before you buy or move on to other interesting things with no hard feelings.

    b) Higher hourly wage compared to their regular employees doing the same job.

    c) A bit more freedom in doing the job.

    d) Not having to enter into the politics.

    The bad stuff:

    a) You need to find another contract or get hired!

    b) If you get another contract right after the other way, you are making hand over fist -- if not, you could end up making less than minimum wage.  Or you may just like the time off between gigs.

    c) Support is a four letter word.

    d) There are no benefits, little coverage or protection from the government (you have to protect yourself with the contract),  and very little ability to be "one of the guys" because you are just a  visitor. :)

    e) Which brings me to:  Having to figure out the politics and then moving on to figure out more politics.
