If telling a parent that I am more than happy to babysit there child on a weekend if told in advance is wrong! do you think My boss would care if he found out? And I saw the child and his mom driving home in my neighborhood after work so i was just thinking it would be a way for extra money and it might be convenient if i offered that choice to them?

  1. If you're worried your boss would get mad, then talk to him first. But when I worked at a daycare, I always babysat for kids on the weekends at my home. It was a great way to make some extra money and help their parents out. My boss never had a problem with it. She encouraged it because it showed the parents that us teachers were loyal and dependable.

  2. At my son's daycare they allow this, they just ask that the arrangements not be made during your working hours. Actually until they told me about the policy, I didn't think about asking teachers to babysit.

I bet the parent and child would love it since you know the boy already and the parent would trust you. Unless your boss prohibits this, I think it's fine as long as you don't let it interfere with your regular work.

  3. At my center, the employees are allowed to do this, but need to tell their administration.  They like making the xtra money, and i like having a babysitter who really knows my kid!

  4. if your boss isn't opened on the weekends why would he/she care? its not like you are taking business away ... but if you are worried he/she will find out and fire you try talking to him/her before hand then decide what to do ... just make sure to explain you'd only be doing that on the weekends when the day care is closed ...

  5. i am a daycare teacher and i have babysat for some of our parents on the weekends. as long as it is on the weekend then the center doesnt care. it just makes the parents feel better because their child already knows their babysitter.

  6. I would say its a dangerous game to tell your boss. Plus what you do outside work is your business so you should dont have to. Just keep it between you all.

  7. I would LOVE it if my kids' teachers also babysat!  Ask your boss!

  8. At my son's center, the teachers are NOT allowed to do this, but as a parent, I would love the offer.

  9. this is allowed at our center and in fact several teachers there and somtimes the administration upstairds provide respite care for some of the parents with thier children. however ask your boss and see what is allowed and if its ok then you may ask her.

  10. A few child care workers i know also babysit on weekends/ after hours for extra money. I cant see how it should be a problem.

  11. as long as she asked you then i see no problem with it

  12. It depends on the policy that your center has.  I work at a center and we only have a policy that staff cannot watch children on days or hours that we are open, because it could take business away from the center.  So nights and weekends are free game.

  13. I am also a daycare teacher and I'm almost certain you can't babysit enrolled children on the weekends. Our daycare made all employees sign paperwork stating that we understood those rules. I would check that out in an employee handbook or with your boss.

  14. Im a daycare teacher too, at my center, just about every teacher there babysits. They will even drive the kids home at the end of the day, and then stay to babysit! I personally dont do this, but I dont see a problem with it. If you're unsure though, you should check with your boss, just to be on the safe side
