Hi there. I really want to get a motorbike and have been riding a little 50cc , I think they are pretty dangerous. I don't like the small wheels or the fact they only do 40k's up a hill. I got my learners for a motorbike today and plan on buying a 250cc, maybe a honda bandit or rebel. I don't want a sports bike just a cruising bike for the weekends. My brother has been riding for 8 years and is telling me to get a lager scooter instead. Scooters cost just as much money as a really nice motorbike. I'm a girly girl but I love bikes... what you reckon a good learners bike is ? do you think I should stick to a 250cc scooter. (they do cost a bit)

cheers

  1. Hi TB :)

I understand your dilemma, in my humble opinion..., as a girl (it is true really hard for me to say this) ... you'd better buy a scooter as your brother told you. why? because scooter is much easier to handle, large baggage for  your goods and helmet... those simple thing that sport bike can't offer, also it will not make you tired fast, and nowadays scooter look beautiful, Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda make a great scooter, I myself really like the model and the features they offer. I shot to this point because you wrote that you only use it to cruise during the weekend only...

    Happy cruising :)

  2. As someone who manages a service department at a Motorcycle dealership I would say if you want a bike get one.

Those scooters are junk. A Honda Rebel 250 or The Yamaha Virago 250 are pretty light wieght, easy to ride, and way better looking than a scooter. Also they are easier to maintain, and are in my opinion safer, those scooters go way too slow on the road.

  3. Sorry, but you must have clicked the wrong section, as this is the motorcycle RACING questions.

The best advice I can give you is you to post this question again.

You would get a better response in....

    "Cars & Transportation"> "Motorcycles"

  4. You may get more answers to this question in the motorcycle section, but if you want a motorbike then unless you are underage why should you listen to your brother.  Does he want to be the only one on a bike!  As long as you are sensible just get what you want, but I would not go over a 250cc for a beginner.

Brothers are way too pushy sometimes.
