I'd like to complete Army Basic training but I know that as a Marine I wouldn't have to. But I want to. All training is good training.

  1. Brother, you don't need it. Yes all training is good if it is time expedient and mission necessary. Most of what you'll be getting will be redundant. We need you in the field troop, not stateside running with the green horns.

  2. Not sure, but I would hope so...it'll be fun!  I miss boot camp myself in MCRD!  I would do it again if I was allowed!

Plus, Army is different, I would tend to think they would have some type of program to teach the different customs.  Can't act like a soldier if one doesn't know how to act!  It is a little laxed but I'm sure there are things that probably would need to be adressed; such as calling your SNCOs "Sarge" or Sergeant demoting them a few grades, or learning how to walk with hand in your pocket, wearing cammies off-base in shopping stores, saluting indoors or without a cover on!  They will expect you to learn this!

  3. it depends on how long you were out of the marines

you may have to do it if you wanted to or not

i think if your out 2 year or longer you have to go to basic

  4. They have a "refresher" course for prior service on Ft. Bliss. I think it is actually in NM around the Whites Sands Test Range. I just tried to find the web site. I don't think the Army spends much for web design, I could not find a link on the Ft. Bliss page. They will send you someplace.

Don't think you get a choice, but you could always ask. If you get there I would NOT mention your 'high and tight" past. You already know you don't want to be a target in a Drill Sargent's cross hair.

Edit: I find your thought of Drill Sargeant fear humorous. However if you want to go thru the full course of  basic and shoot your mouth off about how the Marines do things vs the Army I can assure you are given every f ing $h!t detail that comes along. Prove whatever you want by taking that and the extra fun of being the oldest "road guard" to hit the pavement. I will have to guess you are too old to go back in The Corps putting you in your late 30's, just a guess.

  5. The questions is WHY?

Not why the Army after the Marines

(that begs an honest query to your sanity, but hey DIFFERENT strokes... )

but WHY would anyone want to go through basic again that isn't into Masochism.

Those Army drill sergeants are going to have a freaking Field day with you.

All training is NOT Good training - You'll have to UNLEARN how to be the Best.  Now you can be part of a HERD!

    Good Luck!

  6. I'm sure you'd be allowed to, but its pretty unusual.  Usually you'd just go for a few weeks at a base in AZ, where they'd get you adjusted to army rules, ranks, etc.

  7. Your joking right!!!

Won't happen, You will be assigned to a unit or school and start from there.
