My best times are...

200m dash:27.88

400m dash:1:01

800m run:2:31

I came in 3rd for the 800m and I came in 6th for the 400. Are my times good? How should I improve?

Remember: I'm only a freshman and it's my first year ever running track.

  1. Yes your times are very good for a freshman.

To improve your 800 and 400 you will want to spend the pre-season working on some distance running. I am assuming you are not a distance girl.

You need to have a strong base if you want to be competitive in the longer events like the 800.

You should also do some weights like maybe some power cleans and some Pilates. Instead of sprints on the track or with a sled you should do some hills.

And if you need to practice using the blocks the preseason is a perfect time to perfect your technique.

I hope this helps you, but I’m sure you will improve anyway.

  2. The training I was always taught in High School was to run half distance repetitions. If your running all three it would be similar to running 3/4 pace for a 400 walking to the 100 sprinting the 100 and then walking back to the 400 to reset.

I found the exercise to be exhausting but very good. Your legs will be very sore though for the first while.

  3. well your times are pretty good especially if its your first year. :PP im 13 and i run the 400m dash in 1:10. :P

do more sprints and distance running especially for your 800. :D
