I am a grad student/ teacher conducting research. What CAN you do with an IEP diploma? Any experiences?

I'm looking for someone to talk to me who has an IEP diploma or knows someone who has one and what they did with it.

I'm not familiar with IEP diploma. I have a teaching credential and write IEPs for my students. Is that what you mean or maybe at your school they call a teaching credential specializing in Sp. Ed. an IEP diploma? I'm sorry I couldn't be more help.

i met a guy who managed to talk a college into letting him try for a semester------they eventually let him in as a regualr studenst where he graduated with honors...

otherwise he was turned down for job/education opportunties

In Florida there are three different diploma options for IEP students>

Standard Diploma - Has passed the Florida Comprehensive Academic Tests in all categories with a 3 or better. Usually ESE students who do this receive accommodations that allow them to pass the test if they can. These include small group setting, individual administration, read instructions on all non-reading tests and enlarged type etc.

For ESE students who still can't pass the FCAT, there are the following options:

Special Diploma Option 1- Meets all of the Sunshine State standards for students with a disability. This is a high school diploma that is recognized by employers. However, it is may not be good for vocational schools or community college. Sometimes these students can enter CC or Vo-tec with provisions or they may work towards a standard diploma.

Special Diploma Option 2 - Certifies mastery of employment and community survival skills. This is a high school diploma, but cannot really be used for entrance into college except under special circumstances. Not recognized by all employers and is not always available in other states.

Because IDEA is a federal law, it will be similar in other states.
