My best friend and I are holding a garage sale with A LOT of stuff. We are donating some to people with down syndrome. Is it reasonable to keep half? Or any other suggestions like also having a lemonade stand :)?

As long as you are selling YOUR stuff and not telling everyone that you are donating everything to charity, I see no harm in keeping half of your earnings.

It is great to donate to this cause.  If you do keep half, you need to say that it is a private garage sale, and that you are donating half your profits to the charity.  If you say that it is a charity garage sale, but give the impression that all goes to charity, it could result in problems for you. (It would be considered fraud.)  You have great intentions, in a noble effort. Just let people know the details.  Good luck!
