my legs in two. My stride is way off. I have 3 days until districts, and I'm looking for a remedy to take the pain off for then? Icing, medicine, anything. Maybe something I haven't thought of? Thanks! :]

  1. Shin splints are the result of muscle imbalance where the back of the leg is stronger than the front muscles.  To correct this imbalance, lie face down in bed with your toes hanging over the edge.  Slowly pull your toes upward against the resistance of the mattress.  Hold for 1 or 2 seconds, then repeat.  Try to work up to 2 or 3 sets of 10.   An alternative or supplement to this is the standing toe raise. Just balance yourself, then raise one toe off the ground standing just on your heel. Then repeat with the other foot.

    Good Luck

  2. hmm...idk

  3. Aw, man! I get those at the beginning of every XC season. Wrap your legs, ice them, & elevate them. Try running in the grass if you absolutely have to run b/c it won't put as much pressure on your legs as the cement will. Good luck at districts!         I just remembered, also make sure that when you're running, you go from heel to toe. Do not land on the front part of your foot!

  4. Drop some marbles in your sack and suck it up. There is nothing you can do at this point. Take some IB. warm up real good and give it all you got. The season will be over soon leave it all out on the track. Good luck.

  5. although it sucks all you can do is rest and ice I suggest you consider not racing cause I had shin splints and had to go to the doctors who sent me to physical therapy and I was then done running for two months right In the middle of junior olympics and it sucked but those can get really bad so make sure you stretch ice and rest

  6. i've also been battling shin splints in track...they suck.  i would reccomend running on softer surfaces, or shorter distanes.  ask you coach for a specialized running plan becuase of your injury.  find a way to stay in shape without aggrivating your shins.  also,, go see the sports trainer before practice to get you shins taped.  if you dont have a trainer, just use like an ace bandage like i do, it works just fine on me.  also, anti-inflammatories like advil or the ointment "traumeel" can help reduce any inflammation and pain.  Finally, i would suggest shock absorbing insoles for your shoes and perhaps a brace like one of these:
