  1. Why do you need a visa if you are a legal resident. What kind of a visa do you have?

    If you have a student visa, you can stay legally as long as you are enrolled in a full time course even if the visa expires.

  2. You are now an illegal alien, and could be deported, and perhaps not allowed back in the country again.  You can see an immigration attorney, or immediately go to the immigration department.  The longer you wait, the worse it could be for you.

  3. How can you be legal resident and still

    need to renew your visa ?

    I think what you have is a temporary

    resident card and for some reasons

    it needs to be renewed if you're qualified

    So,you need to go to the same immigration office which you obtained your card.

  4. Go see www.cis.gov.

  5. what sort of visa did you have  ?

    please come back and tell us if you would ?

    how long has your visa been expired ?

    you need to do something about it , so please come back here and answer if you would like to ?

    when you are here reading and would like to answer ? you can edit your question ......

    When Should I Apply

    We recommend that you apply to extend your stay at least  #45 days # before your authorized stay expires, but the USCIS Service Center must receive your application by the day your authorized stay expires.

    What If My Authorized Stay Has Already Expired? (What If I Am Late Filing for an Extension?)

    If you are late filing for an extension and your authorized stay has already expired, you must prove that:

    # The delay was due to extraordinary circumstances beyond your control;

    The length of the delay was reasonable;

    You have not done anything else to violate your nonimmigrant status (such as work without USCIS approval);

    You are still a nonimmigrant (This means you are not trying to become a permanent resident of the United States. There are some exceptions.); and

    You are not in formal proceedings to remove (deport) you from the country.#

  6. You are supposed to do that before it expires, so now you are NOT a legal resident.  USCIS.gov may have the information, but you might want to speak to an immigration attorney.
