Okay, just finished the 8th grade and now I am going to be a freshman. I am usually a very easy going person and don't worry a whole lot. I usually just glide on through life and try to find the good in even the bad things that happen. That being said, for some reason I am getting really nervous for high school. I'm not the kind of person who freaks out about this kind of thing but here I am resorting to asking a question on yahoo answers! lol.

anyway, my major concern at the moment is about extra curricular activities/sports. I love sports as far as just playing them for the fun of it with friends, but I can't stand competitive sports! That's why I'm not really planning on signing up for any sports this year. Also, I don't have an extra curricular activity that really interests me either, but I am still thinking about it. What I want to know is how many people participate in sports and/or extra curricular activities? Or am I going to be one of the hand few who just go to school and really focus on school and homework and don't participate in sports and stuff?

I shouldn't be worried about that sort of thing but I am. I get this feeling that I am going to be the only person not participating in a sport or other activity. So someone please reassure me that that is not the case. Or does anyone have any suggestions of extra curricular activities that might interest me or any non competitive sports? An example of that would be ski club which is probably the only thing I am planning to sign up for...

Thanks!

  1. i wouldn't worry about sports at all. there was no pressure at my high school to play a sport-altough its a great way to make friends. if i were you, i would definately join clubs, if you have a community service club or something like that it looks great on a college application if you plan on going. enjoy freshman year-its the easiest.

  2. the main objective in high school besides education is to get involved in a virety of things just to see what stuff you are intrested in! i run cc and track i used to play basketball and i am involved in american sign language club theater club and the student council! there are sooo many things you can do in high school and if you are one of those people who isnt competeive then at my school you can stilll join just you wouldnt go to the meets or anything! but for me the competition is the best part! working really hard for months and going to a meet tosee my progress is really rewarding!

  3. Hey, I just graduated from high school in the spring and I am about to go to college. When I was a freshman, I was so scared that people would not like me or that I would not be socially accepted. Similar to your case, most of everyone that I knew was playing a sport. I love sports, but I felt as if it would distract me from school work and academics. Almost every friend that I have had throughout school got involved in one way or another; thus, I joined clubs too for the social benefit. At my school the people who did the best academically were those who got involved-joined teams, played sports. Our valedictorian was our head cheerleader. Do worry every kid who has ever gone to high school has gone through the same things that you are feeling. I was active in FCA at my school, but never played any sports. Though I thought that not playing sports would hinder me socially, I ended up getting voted as the "Best Personality"  of my senior class. So, try not to focus on things like groups or too many extra-curriculars, but enjoy yourself and have fun! Remember you can play sports with friends anytime, but if want to join a school team, then all power to you! Good luck!

  4. Don't worry about it. You don't really need to think about that once you fulfill your high school's P.E. quota. But where a friend of mine goes right now, not many people actually care about such things. There are some, enough to fill up the teams, but for everyone else it's just an excuse to go visit friends. Eat too. xD Anywho, once you get there you'll see how it is for yourself. Don't panic!^^

  5. I'm going to be a freshman this year too but I am going to join something because last year in grade 8 I never did anything all year and it was one of the most boring times of my life at school.

  6. its just highschool..there are a lot of kids feeling the same way. just relax. dont get lost or the upperclassman will tell you the wrong way! haha, good luck and stay "safe" !

  7. so its my last year of high scool & if i can give you any advice it would be this.. dont be afraid of going to the highschool beacause its nothing big i expected it to be something huge & its just like junior high just with a lot more people keep doing your sports & make the next 4 years your best years ever because most of us take things for granted stay true to ur friends and have fun beacause the next 4 years will go by so fast.... goodluck*

  8. ok you really need to relax about this. You could try out for a team sport. You could join one or more clubs. There are hundreds of things to do in HS. Even volunteer work. Plan on having a great time!!
