I am a naturalized US citizen. Can I travel with my old country's passport?

The US passport will take 2 weeks at least and I leave on vacation in 9 days. Can i use my old passport while my new American one is in process? If so, what docs are needed to prove that I'm a US citizen on my return (besides the obvious naturalization certificate..which I am wary of taking with me).

Yes, if your passport from your country of birth is still valid, you can travel on it.

Upon returning to the USA, present your passport, and your US naturalisation certificate.  Safe guard that US  certificate, during your travels.  Without it, entry to the USA will be hard to do.

It is illegal for a US citizen to enter the US using any passport other than a US passport. So I would say you need a US passport!

You need a US passport to leave and enter the US. Otherwise, you can go anywhere you want on your original country's passport, so, if you leave home without it, you won't get back in unless you take the time to get a US passport outside of the US. Actually, if you went to one of the passport centers, you should be able to get a US passport the same day, if you have your naturalization certificate. You'd have to pay extra for expedited processing, of course. But you can't use the naturalization certificate as a substitute for a US passport.

Your Oath of Naturalization included a renunciation of all prior citizenship and allegiances.  In other words, as far as the US is concerned, you no longer have any rights to your former citizenship.  If you leave on your former country's passport, you will not be coming back to the US.  Wait for your US passport.

Sure

All you have to do is renounce your US citizenship, immigrate back to where you come from - and then it will be legal to do so.

Otherwise - you need to get one from the US government.
