I am **** at maintenance and not mechanically minded. I would probably be fairly careless with the bike so I need something durable but I anticipate I will pick it up pretty quickly so I don't want anything that will hold back progression. PLease advise.

  1. Well, if you don't want anything that will hold back progression, I would honestly look at something larger than a 250.

Like a Kawasaki KLR 650, Versys

    Suzuki V-Strom 650, DR 650, DR-Z400

If you really want to stick with a 250, then I think all of them would be fine.  Just find one for a decent price.

  2. Honda XR250 excelent on fuel, loads of add on bits to make it quicker when you become more confident and really reliable and does about 70 mph

  3. Depending on the size of your body, I definitely recommend a 600 to start.  Yes they're fast but that's why you can buy frame sliders and extra fairings. lol You're gonna pick it up wicked quick. Before you know it you're gonna be kickin yourself for buyin a 250 and you'll want a 600. I'm not sayin go out and stunt but definitely get a feel for the throttle and run with it. I'm 6'2, 220 and am comfortable on a 1K. Anything smaller and I look like an ape on a pocket bike. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT start out on a 1K (not unless you have the gonads, money and medical insurance to cover). GOOD LUCK and congrats on whatever bike you get.

  4. KLR250.

  5. You can’t really go wrong with any of them.  Used, beat-up dual-sport bikes still look cool because of their ruggedness.  You can probably find one cheap and it will give you a good opportunity to learn from it.  On the other hand, a new one isn’t that expensive.    In any case, you need to learn at least the basics but it isn’t too hard because these things are pretty straight-forward and easy to work on.

Just get one you like or the one that is the best deal and forget about it.  These bikes are a lot of fun, enjoy it!

  6. An enduro is half good at two things, and not really good at either. Kinda like a Palidin in WOW.

Best to start off with a pure street bike and not a sport bike, for the street
