I am expected to move to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. What are my prospects in Canada. what should I do to practice in canada. I want some one to tell me the facts so that I do not get surprises at a latter stage. I will be grateful if some one out there could share her or his experince with me. I surfed the net and it is utterly confusing.

  1. Well, try to stay in the tooth business, but if all else fails, open a Quik-E-Mart.

  2. Good thing you are checking this out now.  Did you ask at the Canadian Embassy?  They should be able to help you with that.  You could also contact the Alberta Dental Association at http://www.abda.ab.ca/ , or the Alberta Medical Association at http://www.albertadoctors.org/ .  Good luck!!

  3. Currently, degrees from another country, including India, are NOT accepted in Canada.

Each province has its own laws and regulations, though.

You may be required to study again to obtain a Canadian degree.

Contact the appropriate ministry of the government of Alberta.

  4. Are you a member of an association? If so, your best bet would be to ask them about your chances. You may have to take further testing in order to be able to practice here in Canada. Honestly, though, this is something you might have considered beforehand.

  5. We have a lot of foreign trained Doctors here now who are driving cabs or working in convienance stores.  Contact the Canadian High Commission, 7/8 Shanti Path, Chanakypuri, New Delhi.  They can advise you about your prospects.
