I am a program Coordinator for a grant based program for senior in NY. I need help with new ideas for trips..

Question

Trips can not be more than 1 hr and 1/2 away. I also need ideas for lectures and workshops. keep in mind is a multi-cultural group from 60 yrs to 100 yrs old. 59% from Dom. Republic.

Any answer will help.

There are a ton of museums, etc outside of manhattan, such as the museum of the moving image just over in queens.  Or you could do theme weeks/months where you're going to hit all the contemporary art museums in the area, then all the...

Workshop and seminars - request around volunteers to teach a Dance class, health agency speak regarding subjects such as addressing depression, Tropical theme party, check with larger churches the topics they cover in their churches...  Request a singer or group to donate a small concert and make it into a publicity... recorded in the news so it becomes a win, win situation.  self defense class, speak to the police department, create teams games as taboo, gestures and have small prices (could be special snacks, etc.) given to the winning team.  Trip to a school and arrange for small groups for each class to speak about their country, what it was like when they were growing up.  Good time for school trip is during the month they celebrate Spanish heritage...  Start the planning stages and it could be a yearly thing.  Have a day were they have their families and play games, tournaments, dominoes, gestures, etc.  dance day...Once i had an ice cream contribution given and made it into "ice cream day and gave raffle tickets."  As they ate i called out several winning tickets.  They can win things like, journals, soap, creams, etc.  Visit a day care...babies always bring a smile to my face...summer go to a local area baseball game, not a professional one, let them root and encourage those around them.  Have a church choir visit especially during Christmas...

There is a Wyeth manufacturing plant in Pearl River, NY.  Contact them to see if they have tours.  They are a great company and they might have a tour program where they can take your group through their facilities.  Good luck.  Please let me know if it works out for you.
