  1. any time you drive a car you need to be insured. Depending on the policy that the owner of the car holds you may or may not be covered. For example, some Auto Club policies will cover and accident regardless of who the driver is. Some other insurance carriers will only cover the driver if they are on the policy.

You should contact the company that carries the insurance policy on teh car and ask them, but I would not do this without the permission of the owner of the car as this could cause the insurance company to raise thier rates.

  2. Typically anyone in a household that could drive a vehicle needs to be listed on the insurance policy, or they may not be covered.  So your parents should tell their insurance agent that you are driving, if they have not done that already.

  3. In California, all drivers must be insured.

Your parents insurance company can add you to their coverage at a reduced price, because you are still on your learners permit.

Why not demonstrate your personal growth and increased responsibility by asking your parents to call their insurance company?

  4. Ask your parents.
