I am a retired school teacher took a lump sum payout from s.s.know appling for monthly benefits not receiving?

  1. Gerald, is the s.s., school system?

    I know it's not social security, since it doesn't have a lump payout.

    Guess you mean "now" applying for monthly benefits?

    From whom?  State unemployment, or some other benefit fund?

    Not receiving them yet?  Do you qualify, have you seen a lawyer yet for advice?

    Reason I ask, is that in USA, teachers normally cannot qualify for "unemployment" benefits, teaching is under category of "seasonal work."

    ( Like part time work, because it normally lasts just 9-10 months a year.)

    Guess you must not have been vested in your retirement system, so that's why you took the lump sum out?

    Hope you can live on that, until you find new employment, hopefully in a place that has more benefits.  Health insurance is the main benefit that most retirees need.
