I am a sinker (less buoyant-if there is really such). How can I successfully tread water to keep me afloat?

I can do breast stroke, back stroke, free style and modified front crawl (head up) but I am really having difficulty learning any ways of treading water.

  1. to tread water there are three methods: Whip Kick, Roadery Kick, or Scissors Kick. Whip kick is the same kick you use with the breast stroke (kind of like a frog kick) but u do it just like sitting up in the water and kind of move ur arms a little; Scissors kick is the kick u use in the side stroke but u sit up and (if ur not familar with it) u practically start out like ur sitting in a chair then bring one leg forward and one leg backwards then bring them together fast and u just move ur arms kind of like ur flapping them like a bird; the roadery kick is the hardest u sit up and have ur legs really far apart then u move one in a circle like movement with ur foot flexed in a clockwise circle and the other foot in a counter clockwise circle (and very time i did it i would always kind of try to put my feet side ways so kind of push downwards in a circle to help with that) and this one actually works the best when u finally figure out how to do it so u dont even really need ur hands

  2. I am a sinker also, but I tread fine, just practice. I wear zero weights when scuba diving. I am a big guy, 6'4" 230 lbs.

  3. Move your arms in figure eights streched straight out your side; move your legs in a circular motion.

  4. Buoyancy can be +2, +1, 0, -1,-2  so yes you could be -2.

When you tread lean your head back it will float, relax muscles, gently move arms in a W motion hands together then scull out and bring back together so it looks like you are making the letter W.  Legs do an eggbeater, keep self vertical in water.

  5. lay on your back

    but the most important

    thing is to relax and

    BREATHE
