As a teacher shouldn't you write a note to the parents of your students and ask this question of them? Better yet meet with them talk with them  create an open forum  so that they are confident in your concern and abilities.

Well, you're not, because we homeschool.

If my child were in your class, I would want you to treat her with respect, rather than try to instill something in her.

If you were my children's teacher, I would most want you to instill a true LOVE of learning. I would want you to teach my children to be kind to everyone they come in contact with at school- even when they may not look like you, have the same type of house, or come from the same type of family.
