I am a team man, says Rory McIlroy
The world number one golfer, Rory McIlroy played down the hype of being a marked man and said that his team’s success is more important than his personal achievements.
Jim Furyk said that Rory McIlroy will be a marked man but Rory believes that he is just one of the 12 members of the team.
The 23-year-old is the man to beat at the moment. Although Snedeker won the Fed Ex Cup but Rory’s recent form has raised many eye brows. He is being called the new Tiger Woods, a compliment which he enjoys listening to.
"This week I'm not the number one player in the world, I'm one player in a 12-man team,” said the current PGA Champion. "There are 12 guys all striving towards the same goal, I'm just part of that".
Many believe that Europeans will be banking on Rory McIlroy’s shoulder for success but Rory knows that his role is not of a leader. Instead, he should be getting points for his team out on the course.
"I don't think my role is a leader in the team room. I think it's more a leader out on the course, to try to get points on the board”.
"There are a lot more guys that have played more Ryder Cups than me and are more experienced in the team room, who know when to speak up and have different views on things".
Rory has transformed as a player and as a human being. He is more confident now on the golf course, he knows what he is doing out there.
There is no doubt that much will rest on Rory’s shoulders He is the man in form, he is the man to beat at the moment but the Europeans must not keep their hopes too high.
The Ryder Cup is an altogether different ball game. Its format, its atmosphere, everything, is just so different.
At Celtic Manor, Rory did not perform the way he would have hoped for, maybe because he was playing in first Ryder Cup. However, this time around, he is more calm and composed but he will surely be a targeted man by the Americans.
