I am a teenager and I want to volunteer, read inside for me details...?

I am a 16year old child from South East London and i really want to help people unable to help themselves, so I thought of volunteering. Does anybody know any good volunteering programmes for children or animals?

I don't know anything about London, but do they have "Rest Homes" for senior citizens there? I would imagine most of them would be glad for volunteers to play games, or read to the patients or something along that line. Check with any that are near you.

I am in the US so I don't know anything about other countries.
