i am a senior in high school who specializes in the 400. My times are just average i run in 49 but im improving. Currently i am running summer track for one of the top youth track clubs in the nation. So basically, my track mentor told me to make a list of schools to send time to so ima try my luck. I have a few schools on my list so far but i would like to know other schools preferably d1 that i should try sending times to. May i also mention i am a great student that is well balanced with sports academics and clubs. I have a 3.3 gpa and scored a 990 on the sat out of 1600 (i plan on taking it again)

  1. Most likely a Sub 48 seconds get you in a chance for a scholarship but at times the standards change. I know that the time regent you need to get your chances in.

    100m - sub 12

    200m - sub 24

    400m - sub 48

As for grades... you require a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The higher your grade and faster your time, the more schools will be knocking at your door

  2. I had a friend who just graduated and, while he didnt get a full scholarship, he got a lot of money from his college(Fordham) to attend.

    He ran a 49(point something i dont remember) and a 1:57.8 800m.

My advice to you is to continue to improve in the 400, but try to get your coach to let you run the 800.  I know of one kid who used to be a strictly 400 runner(high 48)and ran a 22.25 200 in day where he doubled in the 400 and 200, but in his senior year began running the 800 because he knew he needed more to get a scholarship.  He started by running low 2:00s(beginning of this indoor season), but in his most recent race he ran a 1:53.  A 1:53 alone will get colleges interested, and because of his 400 speed, he got signed.
