  1. You can take supplements to help you. The biggest concern of a vegetarian is not Iron and Protein BUT B12. It is important that you drink vitamin B12 for your body.

Iron can be  recieved from dark leafy greens or from vitamins as well.

  2. morning star and boca is the best way to get protien. its fake meat made for vedgetarians and it tastes good! you can get iron from spinach and cereals and stuff. your body cant really process iron from spinach and other vedgies so you need to take vitamin c with it.

    :D:D:D

  3. You should see a Doctor BEFORE you change your diet drastically!

  4. well for the 4 months i was one i learned the secret to protein is cheese and eggs but there is iron that you cant get from anything but meat so you need to go to a pharmacy and buy iron supplements make sure theyre only 100% or 150% of the daily recommendation make sure you eat lots of cheeses and foods such as brocolli too

  5. Nuts. Especially Brazil nuts.

  6. tofu or anything containing soy and nuts are good sources of protein. You should make sure to eat lots of them.

  7. protein is found in milk or you could buy like pills or something from a pharmacist after speaking to your doctor about it. and i know a lot of people who take iron pills, iron is difficult to get a lot of. especially if you are vegetarian. yeah you could buy pills !AFTER! speaking with your doctor to see if they are right for you.

  8. Beans and soy/tofu have lots of protein...spinach and other dark greens have iron! :)

  9. Did you google "Vegetarian protein" and "vegetarian iron"?  Research is key to learn how to eat healthy.  I'm not sure what you mean that you are not vegan but you don't eat fish.  Neither vegetarians nor vegans eat any dead animals..ever.

  10. Well, I'm no expert on this, but I took a human nutrition class last semester and this is what we were told.  Green, leafy vegetables, such as spinach, kale, etc. are very high in iron.  Most cereals and breads are fortified with iron also.  As far as protein, eggs, beans and legumes are a good source.  To get the right effect from protein, you should eat beans together with rice.  I can't remember exactly how it works, but when you don't eat meat, the only way your body can use proteins properly is when they are able to produce amino acids.  The only way to do that is to combine the nutrients in the beans with the starch in the rice.  Also, for iron, if you cook with an iron skillet, iron actually leeches into your food, increasing your intake.  I know that sounds hokey, but it is true.

  11. Hi!

The important thing to remember if you're a vegetarian is that you need to eat a balanced diet to make sure you're getting all the nutrients your body needs.

eat more fruit and veg, eat more starchy foods, such as bread, pasta and rice, cut down on fat and sugar.

These foods are all good sources of protein, so try to include a mixture of these in your diet each day, and vary the types you choose:

pulses (such as lentils and beans), nuts and seeds, soya, wheat proteins, such as cereals, bread, rice and maize, tofu, tempeh

Also, it would help you heaps if you learn recipes, so you don't get bored.

I guess if you went to a nutritionist, it would be good for you, since you're in the beginning of the process.

    Best wishes! =)

  12. remember to take your vitamins everyday!

  13. Protein: beans and nuts.

    Iron: Green, leafy veggies.

And definitely do research on your own and visit the doctor. If you don't get the proper nutrition, you are going to get very sick very fast. A friend of mine tried to become vegetarian without doing any research or getting medical advice, and her hair started falling out!

  14. Ah, the protein myth, so pernicious.  Look, as long as you get enough calories, and they aren't all junk food, it's almost impossible NOT to get enough protein.  Have you ever heard of kwashiorkor in an industrialized nation?  Have you ever heard of kwashiorkor?

As for iron, www.vrg.org has a list of iron-rich foods.  Just remember to have foods rich in vitamin C when you eat them to increase absorption.  Beans/pulses and greens are rich in iron, as is blackstrap molasses.  Citrus fruits, tomatoes, bell peppers, and strawberries are rich in vitamin C.

  15. ya can take an over the counter iron pill
