  1. Oh yeah...I saw that on TV yesterday! Can't remember where it was though...

  2. I would think that was just a ceremonail plot, I have never heard of any grave for Mary being realized.

  3. The body of Mary is not there, it was assumed into Heaven.  Had people known where the body of Mary was, it would have been dug up long ago and people would have told everyone they had her bones and this and that.  There is no record of anyone claiming to have any relics of Mary.  At the end of her earthly life God assumed her into Heaven.

  4. What does the Latin say?  I cannot imagine what would translate into "Mother to the Christos" that would have been placed on a marker.

I would also have to question why it took so long to find the grave.

  5. I believe you mistook a "stone" for a piece of toast some Mexican was selling on Ebay.

  6. I haven't seen it. So I wouldn't know where she was buried.

But honestly, how many parents do you think named their kid Jesus or Mary after Jesus left? More than just a few.

  7. No person knows where Mary the mother of Jesus is buried!

  8. Wow!  I'm intrigued, but have little to offer.  I think I'll just float here awhile and see if I  can learn something.  Thanks for the good question.

    Edit:

So, it's in Ephesus, a city of ancient Anatolia (Turkey)?  When I checked what Wikkipedia had to say about Ephesus, I learned that there is an ancient ruin there that is believed to be the house where Mary lived out her last years and died.  Supposedly, St. John took Mary to Ephesus, following Christ's crucifixion.

Yup.  I did learn something new.  Thanks.

  9. Great question.  Not sure though, I never really thought about it.  There were a couple of places when taking time to look it up.  We learn from the ancient liturgical tradition that Mary, Christ’s mother, was evidently buried in the area of Gethsemane, on the opposite side of Jerusalem than the location of Jewish tombs next to Golgotha. There is also a strong tradition in western Christianity that Mary died in Ephesus, having gone there to live with the Beloved Disciple John. Not sure other than this.

    Just My Thoughts!

  10. I wouldn't consider the fact that someone put up a stone claiming that Jesus's mother was buried there to be proof that she was buried there.  Anyone could put up a stone that says that.  There are a lot of religious hoaxes all over the world from all time periods.

  11. Assuming you have found the grave of Mary.  Does that have any spiritual significance?  Does it make any difference, from a spiritual perspective?

  12. Was the Grave stone engraved in Galilean Aramaic?

In what specific form was the name; it should have been the Aramaic letters for MRYM.

  13. I am just amazed that, despite centuries of inaccessibility, that the Christian Church managed to find all those important religious sites.  If they hadn't, the pilgrims would have been severely disappointed and less likely to help the local economy.

  14. 2,000 years passed without anybody being aware of the grave of Mary, and now in 2008 somebody finds it? I would give you 1,000 to 1 on that it's a hoax.
