I am a writer, I need to know more about security cameras for a story I'm writing, HELP!?

In the story, she must know a lot about electrical stuff and she must deal with some very intense situations with security cameras and controls. I am CLUELESS, plus, I would LOVE to learn more about it. Can someone please help me learn more about stuff like this? I mean, random facts even, anything factual that can make my writing sound more detailed and true. I would really love some help with this, thank you.

Go on the Web and look at the specs of available security cameras

Some simple facts:

Most of them ar black and white (to use less bandwidth) but color is an option

They can be wired or wireless

They can be programmed to record only if there is motion

They can record continously. Most security systems use hard drives now to record.

The recording s/w can also use face recognition to detect "wanted" people of interest

In summary, outside of the cameras, the s/w to deal with captured images is constrained only by the imagination and power of the "monitoring" party.
