The goods that I would be making would consist mostly but not limited to baby bibs, blankets, burpies, and the like. Everything that I have came up with seems to be already taken. I could really use some help!

  1. Go to etsy.com and see what evryone else is making and maybe you'll get some ideas.

  2. A good business idea does not need to be original ... ever notice how many places sell pizza or hamburgers. I promise, none of them "invented" what they sell.

Pick something that you are good at, and be the best that you can. If you want to make bibs, then be the person to "go to" for baby bibs !

If you are fair and the goods are of good quality, you will survive in the long term. Just remember that most new businesses take years to grow.

As a business owner, not all of your customers will be fair to you, but your focus needs to be what is good for your business i.e. if a customer or two trash you on E-Bay , it will hurt future sales. Forget about who is right and do what is good for the business (give them a replacement, money back, etc.)

I started a car business with $56 dollars, and now it is a million dollar business. It can be done, but you need to stay on focus. I am not big in self promotion ... in fact, most of my friends don;t even know what I do for a living.

The internet is a great place to create clients, and E-Bay is a cheap way to sell some items and do market research.

Good luck ... you are welcome to e-mail me if you want.

  3. Try to sell your items at local craft fairs or vendor markets.  Some farmers markets will even let you sell homemade goods.

  4. Contact  trade associations or to get offers from suppliers of  handmade goods , email buy@epog.org
