  1. It depends if you have your own authority or not. If you are using brokers then the load could end up paying 3.00+/mile but also could be so low that you would be paying to run the load. Then you have to worry about insurance, plates, permits, etc. If you are leased onto a company then the pay is usually between .88ish-.91ish. Also some pay on a sliding scale with minute bonuses for going into NYC. If leased then you generally don't need to worry about plates or permits as the company will cover those. Either way, as an owner, most of the charges are tax write-off's. From what I hear now is that it is really tough out there for single drivers with fuel prices so be careful when making that decision to become an o/o. Good luck to ya!


  2. Owner-operators are hurting right now because of fuel prices, insurance, etc.  unless you already own your truck free and clear (no loans or payments)

    Otherwise, you will need to run about $2500 per week just to break even.

    The only owner/operators which are profitable right now (according to federal statistics) are small fleets of 5 or more.
