Question:

I am about to have my large toe toenails removed in mid-Sept. How long before you can walk again?

I have to go back to work 3 days later, and I do alot of walking there. Is this feasible?

Any tips about after-care would be most appreciated.

The removal is because of an inherited condition that makes the toenails curl around. Thanks!

  1. I had mine removed in feb, the actual procedure was OK because of freezing, but as soon as it wears off, it hurts a lot. It was too..... painful and I was not able to go to work for a week. You will be able to walk with open toe shoes, or sandals but it's gonna be painful. If your work involves lots of walking, then you should give them heads up that it's possible that you might need some extra days off, and make sure to ask the doctor to prescryoue you some pain killers because you will need them for the first few days. I hope everything goes well with you. Good luck!

  2. you can walk right away- I recomend open toe shoes and no socks

  3. My mother had her big toe nails removed last month. She was walking that same day, though with some discomfort.  The key for her was to wear open toe shoes, so the toes don't rub up against anything.  She kept band-aids over them with some antibiotic ointment.  I would imagine that your doctor will prescribe something, but if not you can get some that has pain medicine mixed in with the cream. You'll just need to make sure that you don't bump into anything with your toes... that will be uncomfortable I'm sure.

  4. OUCH

I had dropped a desk on my toe in the 6th grade and it was bloody bloody so I completely understand what you are about to go through

The complete healing should be about a month but you will be able to walk w/ crutches after a couple weeks

You will surely have a couple of co workers who will assist you in some of the walking so don't worry

Mostly, you will be tired because crutches can be like a workout so just drink plenty of water and get plenty of sleep

  5. I had 1/2 my big toenail removed the beginning of august and I went right back to work after the procedure.  Was a little sore that night and was fine the next morning.  As long as you have open toed shoes; you'll be fine to go back the next day I would assume.
