My work history is not the best, even at my age, I have made a lot of mistakes. However, I am so tired of looking for work, I am so ready to just give up!

Please do not give me the "Work at Home" line... I want to work outside of my home and be with people!

At 52, I have experience in shipping, factory, and receptionists postions. But, they look at my age, my resume, and I never hear from them again... I was in business with my husband for 5 years straight, that seems to be a steady record, employers would rather hire "kids" that do not understand the concept of work. (No offence meant to anyone)

I just need a job and would like something dealing with people and/or animals.

Anyone ever been in my shoes and found a way out???

  1. Try some volunteer work first at an animal shelter or some place you would like to work.   The people will get to know you and then may hire you.

  2. I have been in the employment staffing industry for 27 years.  I started out at 21 right out of college.  For my entire staffing and recruiting career I can assure you that my clients - and there are thousands now - had rather hire someone who is (1) experienced and (2) does not have obligations, such as small children, that will take them away from their job unexpectedly.

If you are 52 years old and cannot find a job I'm betting it has to do with either your work stability, your references or the answers to your questions during an interview.

The first thing I look for when I review a resume is (1) their objective, and (2) their work stability.  I don't place people with my clients that have had more than three jobs in ten years - unless of course they were working their way through college.

I also don't hire people who come to an interview and talk about how no one will hire them or give them a chance because of their age - red flag.

I'd say, go to a local reputable staffing service in your area with a clean copy of a resume and dressed for success.  Sit down and talk with a recruiter and tell them what skills you possess and let them test you out.  They love to work people in your age range.  I promise you - it's not your age.

Good Luck!  If you are in Atlanta, let me know - I'll look at your resume.

  3. I would look for an opportunity that allowed you to work with people outside your home and at the same time allow you the time to spend with animals at a local shelter, humane society, etc.
