I am about to sign a contract to work somewhere for 2 years. Does this sound like a reasonable request?

I will be teaching english as a second language, and will be driving 35 minutes one way to the learning center. I was told I would work 3 hours per day, but should this also be included in the contract I am about to sign...sorry, I know this should include a question mark but I am typing on a computer that is messed up!

  1. A minimum of hours should be listed on the contract.... as should break and lunch times should you work for more than 3 consecutive hours. Pay should be listed and your hiring level too.

Vacation days & personal leave time should be listed too.

As for the travel – ask your employer if they can give you a monthly / yearly public transportation pass. If you need to use your car ask for a parking space too.

  2. Generally, a teaching contract does paint a broad scope of your duties, but not really specifics.  There is simply too much to outline and include.  If you're concerned, talk to the administrator or a lawyer.  As far as the two-year thing, I just finished my 6th year teaching and I have never even heard of anyone signing for longer than one year at a time!

  3. the hours of work should be spelled out in the contract as well as the place where the work will be performed.

that's my two cents worth but I'm not a lawyer just a know-it-all with a big mouth.  Good luck what ever you decide to do.
