http://www.gamblinganon.blogspot.com made me come to the realization that I need professional help to quit. Internet self help pages haven't worked for me so I'm ready to try a professional addictions counselor before it gets worse. Well, it can't get much worse since my life savings are gone now. Anyone have an idea how much a good addictions therapist cost?

  1. Gamblers anonymous  like AA it there for you

  2. Mostly help is free

  3. Hello Whitey,

I understand what you are going through. I had a serious online gambling addiction which nearly cost me losing my whole family. I failed college because all i wanted to do was gamble and nothing else. This is a serious problem. What I did was tell a family member first. I know it is difficult because my sister was extremely shocked, but it actually helps talking to somebody. Another thing which made me quit gambling in total was thinking about having a family later on in my life. Theres this girl that I love and me thinking about risking my whole allowance on a game of chance is really not worth more than she is. Think of your loved ones and take the first few steps. Talk to Gamblers Anonymous. IT helps!!!

    Good luck friend.

  4. I think you should see if there is an Gambler's meeting in your area. Call your local library & see if they can help you if you can't find it on line. The cost of help depends on what you are looking for & who is offering it. We are not allowed to solicit on here but I know people who do EFT do some research on that & I have had fabulous results. I have used it on myself & I went off of pain pills I took for my feet & legs from diabetes. I coach people & sometimes life coaches can help you. I have a son that died after drug addiction & my father was a gambler so I have learned about addiction & help people to get to the root of their problem. Something is going on deep down & you just have to pull it up & look at it sensibly & release it & then fill that area up with something healthy. Then you have to make the new thought into a new pattern until it is so firm the old can never come back...If you go to a meeting you won't be able to ask for a recommendation but you can network & talk to people outside of the meeting who can refer you to someone who is good. Focus on knowing you are now being guided & directed to the right person because it is time to heal. EDIT: there are people like me who work over the phone & do coaching so you don't have to go anywhere

If you have medical insurance it may be covered. I know 90% of the charges would be paid by my insurance.

As others have pointed out GA is free, but the quality of some chapters is suspect.
