  1. I went from being diagnosed as psychosis nos to bipolar to schizoaffective to psychotic depressive. I'm not sure if my doctor will ever make up his mind. If you are afraid of a misdiagnoses you should tell him that and see what he says. If he just shrugs it off you may want to try a different pdoc. I would tell the doctor about all of your concerns. Hopefully he will take that into consideration and come up with something to help you. Are you feeling good now? If you are already doing good then I wouldn't worry about it if you are having problems then you may need a med adjustment. By the way these diagnoses are just labels for insurance billing anyways.

  2. yes many are misdiagnosed and you could very well be

the difference is that with schizophrenia you hear voices

the good news is that it is possible to get better

  3. Big difference / see a good psychiatrist

  4. Bipolar is a mood disorder.

    Schizophrenia is a thought disorder.

Bipolar - extremes of depression and mania, which are mood swings.

Schizophrenia - extremes of thought, such as delusions, paranoia, hallucinations.

Now, there is something called Schizo-Affective Disorder.  This is a combination of Bipolar and Schizophrenia.  It is both a mood disorder and thought disorder and has symptoms of both.

  5. First of all what I tell people that I work with is to learn as much as they can about their diagnosis, if you were physically ill, most people want to learn all they can about what is wrong with them. So mental health issues should be no exception.

Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns of misdiagnisis? That would be the first step. After that if the doctor would not talk to me about my concerns I would likely obtain a second opinion. But I would not go off the medication that you currently are prescribed-that could make things a lot worse. Good Luck
