I am reading "Smashed", an anti-alcohol memoir. I am traditionally against drinking (i'm 16), but I am afraid that reading about the experience of drinking will make me want to try it. I have access to alcohol, but I hate alcohol. I hate giing control of my body to something else, and i feel alcohol causes too many problems. What should I do? Am I overreacting?

  1. What is it about this book that would make you want to drink? If you can try to have fun in other ways without the drinks.

  2. I've read smashed :D!! It's an amazing book...it does present alcohol in a weirdly positive light though because the life seems wild and interesting...

I do however think that reading a book can't get you hooked on alcohol, or entice you into drinking it. Hopefully you'll see the negative aspects of drinking from the book, and chose to say no in the future...however it's your preference afterall!

  3. You have control over your own actions. If you don't want to drink, don't drink.

  4. put the book down and come back to reality. I can get pretty caught up in my books too. You dont like it, so dont give into the impulse.

  5. I'm sure that you're not weak minded enough to be that influenced that much by a book. Trust your instincts and perhaps stop reading it if produces a negative response in you.
