  1. That is a very personal question, I am not sure anyone else can answer that but you. I mean how much do you love your cat? You can see your doctor and ask about allergy shots- I have a friend who does this in order to keep her cat but she is single and a working professional so she can afford it. I have another friend who just toughed it out. He took over-the-counter allergy meds and over the course or about a year his body was able to build immunity to his allergy and he and his cat live happily now. This my not happen with you though.

In the end your health is of the upmost importance- if you cannot afford allergy shots and o-t-c medications will not help relieve symptoms then you should consider finding a good loving home to adopt your kitten.

  2. I'm allergic to all my critters, and I have 3 horses, 4 doges, 8 cats and 2 ferrets. I take Claratin. It works for me. One thing I noticed though. I get use to my animals. But my allergies always get worse when I meet new animals as I am not use to their dander. Hope you figure something out.

  3. personally i would suck it up, i could never get rid of my cats, unless i was on deaths door, and even then i would ask my doctors what my options were. but that is just me. Good Luck!

  4. Have you tried any kind of medications to help with your allergies? There are some ways to help relieve your allergy while still keeping your kitten,

You can get an allergy shot, take anti histamine medicine such as Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, or Benadryl.

Your kitten will need to be brushed daily with a soft brush to remove allergy causing dander and saliva. Wipe it daily with a towel or sponge moistened with distilled water.

A product called Allerpet is designed to reduce the allergens in dander and cat saliva. You can check it out here:-

Shampoo every two weeks with a mild pet shampoo and creme rinse. The cat needs to be fed on a balanced diet containing natural fat.

Remove pet food dishes and wash after feeding time. Clean cat beds often.Allergy proof the house by installing a HEPA fair purifier and use AC and humidifiers in season. Smoking should be prohibited and vacuum often,

It will take quite some work but it is possible to live with a cat when one is allergic to one. If you have tried all methods and still unable to live with your kitten, it would be best to give her up now because a kitten gets adopted faster than if you were to wait longer and allow her to grow older (where most people feel the kitten would have lost their so called cute factor)

  5. My brother loves cats and I'm an animal lover as well so I had to get 2 bottle fed kittens when I saw them in the paper (But I'm highly allergic to cats too) get an IONIC WHISPER it costs around $25.00 at HealthyLiving.com and it works wonders as well as gives you fresh clean air.

  6. It depends on your definition of really allergic (and also how much you love  and want to keep your kitten).  If by allergic you mean that being around her causes you to have life threatening asthma attacks or breathing difficulties or to go into anaphylactic shock, then yes you should consider rehoming her.  If you are talking about itching, watery eyes, blocked nose etc then there are ways of coping.  Anti histamines will help (safe to take all year round - I have to as I am allergic to house dust mites) and regular vacuuming and damp dusting will help too.  There are lotions you can put on your cat to help with allergies - such as petal cleanse - and you might want to consider investing in an air purifier.  Only you know how bad your symptoms are and whether you are able to put up with them.  Many people manage to cope with their allergies and keep their pets but it really does depend on how serious it is and how determined you are to find solutions and put up with a bit of discomfort in order to keep your cat.

  7. You need to make this decision.  You can try allergy medication but if you feel you are going to neglect or steer clear of your kitten you should try to find a home for her so you can both be happy.  But again...you need to think about what you want and what you can and can't live with.  Good Luck.
