  1. Why did you have to mention being an "African" American.  It doesn't make you anymore special than the next person wanting to adopt.  Either be an American or don't.  Sick of the stupid hyphenated bs.

  2. I'm black and I AM AN ADOPTEE. I love my parents; worked out great for us; they got me at birth. I'm not thrilled about the overseas thing as there are SO MANY black kids that need adoption here. I'm not sure why blacks need to go abroad for kids, but whatever....

Go local, do your research! You need to do your research. Look at foster care agencies; state foster care, the fees are less. You can do it. Good luck and God bless..it's a great decision to take someone into your life and your heart. I've had a charmed life with my parents...I think they'd agree I'm pretty wonderful too (after 36 years...I was adopted at birth)...smile...

  3. Oh boy!! You said the dreaded "b" word (baby)  you didn't say "From foster care"

RUN!!! RUN NOW!! Run for your life!!

Really.. Get out while you can.. I can hear the chanting getting  louder... "Cru-ci-fy  her" (drum beats) "cru-ci-fy her!!"  the mob will be here any second with pitchforks and torches..

    RUN!!!

Just a joke people (but like many, there's some truth to it!!)

  4. I would contact your local social servcies office and also perhaps go to local adoption agency seminars and research online.

  5. I am going to say more power to you. I have such a respect for anyone who wants to adopt. I am adopted and am grateful for my family I could not of asked for better parents. I think you should go for it. In my opinion race has nothing to do with wanting a child and and giving it unconditional love. If you have it to give and can't have a child of your own and are stable in your fiances to do so go for it. Good luck and and I hope this is some kind of help for you.

  6. The best advice I can offer anyone contemplating adoption is to do lots of research on:

They types of adoption i.e. domestic, international, foster, special needs to determine which is best for your family.

Ethical adoption practices, this will help you when you are ready to pick an adoption agency or lawyer.

I would also recommend the book "Twenty things adopted kids wish their adopted parents knew"  I just finished it and found it to be a good first book on adoption.

  7. I say go for it! There are soooo many children looking for adoption out there that need a good home and lots of love! If you are ready to take in a child .....there is nothing wrong with it at all!

  8. I think that's wonderful that you are looking to adopt! I know there's a lot of African American babies and children that need homes here in the US.

  9. Check out http://www.adoptionfriendly.com/index.ph... - they have a lot of African American moms who have adopted or are adopting, from foster care, International, and domestic newborn.

  10. I personally haven't.  But I do want to say that I think it is an incredible thing that you are doing.  It makes me sad to think about all of those babies out there with no parents to love it.  I would love to be able to adopt one day.

I wish you much luck!  God Bless!  =)

  11. I know this is yahoo answers, but what does being african american have to do with it?
