  1. As I recall, you can have dual German/American citizenship only if you have a German father or mother, as that is the only way you would have the German part of your dual citizenship.

Acquiring German citizenship usually requires the applicant for naturalization to renounce their current citizenship, so that would apply to you. There are exceptions, but none for Americans barring my first paragraph above as far as I know.

So in this case the problem is on the German side of the law. US law does not care if you acquire a different citizenship, although keep in mind that, when traveling, and when coming back to the US, you are required by law to enter the US on your US passport regardless of other nationalities/passports you may have.

  2. Yes you can but you have to show proof that part of your family is born in germany. My mother was german that is why I have a dual Citizenship.

I have an american passport and a german passport.

  3. are you german decent? most countrys will give dual if you can prove you or your family is from Germany.

  4. it depends on your relationship with germany, wife, kids, residency etc...

My wife is  german citizen and our kid was born in the US, by birth he holds both nationalities and we didnt even have to do any special applications if you provide more details I may be able to tell you more

  5. depends on your age. Germany does not allow dual citizenship after 23.

  6. Well yes I suppose so. You just cannot carry an American passport and a German one as well. It iagainst the law and could have you put in jail.
